Ship 404 Ft Pierce Fl News
July 10, 2007
Skipper Jerry Schmitt
On June 23, 2007 Ship 404 had an Island clean up day on Spoil Island SL13 which is a just north of mile marker 179. SL 13 is a very nice place to camp and swim. If you use the Islands for any sort of recreation, please take everything back with you. The group consisted of seven Adults and five Scouts. A new sign to replace the original that was burnt was put up and about 15 bags of trash consisting of glass, plastic, paper etc., were collected. Volunteers also picked up a tire, mattress and a broken chair. A lot of work was accomplished and lunch was prepared by Mate Jim Schmitt. After lunch, the group had some fun tubing and other water sports. Another trip to the island is in the works where picnic tables will be repaired and fire pits installed. Ship 404 has adopted this Island through the Spoil Island project, which is coordinated by the local office of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.

On July 6, 7 and 8 five of the Scouts participated in a tactics and skills course for sailing in the 420 sail boats for run off races to be held Thanksgiving weekend for qualifications for the 2008 Koch Cup being held in Annapolis Md. Jamie, Collen, Spencer, Alexandra and David all had a great time and learned a lot of sailing techniques. The instruction was great. There were about nine Scouts who participated in this great training.

Volunteers are always needed for all of the scouting activities. Jerry is looking into setting up a program for the younger (9 to13) year olds, please give him a call if you are interested.

Work continues at the Scout hut and on all of their boats and other projects.

Don’t forget to support the golf tournament which helps the Ship to Run.

Thanks for all of your support and everything you do for Sea Scout Ship Edwin Binney.
