2019 Overview

Congratulations to all our participants this year for making our 39th running of the Pelican Yacht Club Invitational Billfish Tournament one that that will go down in the record books and be ingrained in everyone’s memory for a very long time!   It was a once in a lifetime sailfishing event!

Our thirty boat fleet caught and released a record 969 sailfish in three out of four fishing days with records set for daily catch (41) and boat catch (73) and daily fleet catch (712)!    This tournament ranks number 1 in the top ten  tournaments on the Treasure Coast over the past 65 years.  It beats the Pelican's 2012 results of 736 sailfish.   Seven of the top ten  spots  are  now  held by the Pelican tournament!

That’s good fishing and it’s the result of the quality of anglers and crews who participate – some of the best in the world - great job!

A very big thanks to our crew at the Pelican is also warranted – our Dockmaster, Vonnie Lofton, and her crew, Chef Arnold and his kitchen colleagues who serve the most delicious food of any tournament, our wait staff, bar staff for their long hours and great service, management, our tournament committee, and special thanks to our radio operator and scorekeeper, Allyson Francis who did a beautiful job.

We want to give a special thanks to our tournament artist, Michael Hoffman, who wowed us with his beautiful artwork, and who will  be joining us again next year.

Hope to see you all here again next  year
